Local Educational Training Under Sail Voyage March 16-18 2007

Sunny skies, light breezes and gale forces joined our training under sail voyage from Simon’s Town to Langebaan with an educational visit at Dassen Island aboard the Rotary Scout in March. 6 youth from Trinity International Project, South African Youth Minister Program and Christel House SA were challenged to face nature and themselves in close touch.

Most of the trainees have never stepped their foot on a yacht before!	Trainees are gradually taking over responsibilites on board: Learning to take the helm.
Learning Basic Seamanship Skills.	The spirit of One ship, one crew: trainees learn that working together as a team makes life much easier.
Commitment and Responsibility: Standing a watch in the middle of the night.	Sleeping on a yacht while sailing is a truly exceptional experience.
Taking up the challenge and facing fears: Valentino climbing up the mast.	Learning about coastal conservation issues from Dassen Island Manager Johan Visagie and exploring career options in maritime industries.
